I've had success in the past, but now I'm unable to create a usable KMZ file from Global Mapper. The export runs to completion (takes hours and writes a huge KMZ file), but on attempting to open it in Google Earth, the message 'No results - empty KML file' appears immediately. I have a set of reconstructed point cloud data (location + color) covering a large area of ground and I would like to display it in Google Earth.Originally the data was in a.ply format, but I've converted it to Collada using and tried to import it by modifying the KML file found. Google Earth gave an error about being unable to load the.dae file.
