Does anyone here have a copy of the service manual for an ITT Schaub-Lorenz Touring International 103? I just picked one of these radios up at Kutztown, and it seems the bias controls are set wrong, because it draws 60mA with the volume turned all the way down, but I don't know what they should be set to, or what the normal power draw is. This is an amazing portable from 1967 made by the celebrated West German maker SCHAUB-LORENZ. The TOURING 80 UNIVERSAL is a premium top of the range 4 band band set of significant quality, and specification, and you will really struggle to fiind a better example of this rare and very desirable vintage reciever.The TOURING 80 UNIVERSAL is a high quality 4 band (LW/MW/FM/SW) set offering great versatility, sound quality, tuning sesitivity,portability, and wonderful sound performance. It really is one of the nicest general purpose vintage radios I have come.
FM is from 88 to 104 and SW covers the 19m, 25m, 31m, 41m, & 49m ranges.Take a close look at the photos. This radio is in quite remarkable condition for a radio coming up towards its 50th Birthday. It looks to be totally complete and original.
Of course it is a used radio of some age, and is bound to have a few scuffs and marks, but supersize the photos and examine it closely and I challenge you to find anything much of real note beyong the odd scuff and mark mark. Even the battery compartment is as clean as a whistle. About the only tinyflaw I can notice is some very minor loss of the surround to the aerial apperture, and just maybe the twin 5 pin Din soxckets originally had a cover like the sockets below?The controls, tuning dial, twin telescopic aerials, handle, cabinet, grille, all look original and in outstanding condition.
Schaub-Lorenz produced this beauty in 4 different colour ways, and this one is the Type 110161 in a delightful period Wine Red (Weinrot).The radio is in exceptional working order, tuning sesitively on all 4 bands( SW/LW/MW&FM) with separate AM/FM tuners and finding many stations a lesser set would fail to detect. The controls are all working smoothly and progressively, and even the dial light is working at the press of a pushbutton. The sound quality is exceptional. It is remarkable how these vintage radios seem to produce better sound and look so much more appealing than many a modern radio. This set can be listened to daily, and is just such a lovely piece of working, functional memorabilia.The TOURING 80 UNIVERSAL runs from 5 D cell batteries (not supplied) easily available worldwide.This is an ideal radio for the collector, but is equally suitable for anyone who wants a lovely vintage radio that will grace any domestic setting with period charm, and will continue to delight in every day use.This radio will be more or less impossible to replace, performs beautifully, and looks wonderful.
